Rob Pattinson has again shot down rumors that he is dating his Twilight costar Kristen Stewart. The actor mused to Vanity Fair, "It doesn't make any difference what you say to the tabloids. I've literally been across the country from Kristen, and it's like 'Oh, they were on secret dates!' It's like "Where? I can't get out of my hotel room!' "

Stewart also commented on the rumors, telling the magazine, "It's so retarded. We're characters in this comic book."

Pattinson did, however, admit that he and Stewart share a special relationship, explaining, "She's influenced how I've done all the Twilight stuff. It's quite nice to have someone who is genuinely indifferent to the whole spectacle of everything."

Director Catherine Hardwicke acknowledged their bond, which she labeled a "nervous attraction." She said it merely helped the film, explaining, "What Rob and Kristen had is a multitude of feelings for each other. Complex feelings for each other. It was what we needed. Complex, intense fascination."

The two appear together again in the film's sequel New Moon, which opens on November 20th.
